in that是一种固定搭配，其意为“因为”，与for the reason that,because 同义，可用于引导原因状语从句。如：I’m in a slightly awkward position in that he’s not arriving until the 10th.

1、that用作限定词

that用作限定词是指“较远的人或者物”

eg: Look at that man over there. 瞧那边的那个男子。

I was living with my parents at that time.那时候我跟父母住在一起。

That incident changed their life.那次事故改变了他妈的生活。

2、that作代词用

1）用于指代前面提到过的想法或情形

eg: They said you wanted to talk to me. Why was that?

2）为避免重复前面已提及到的名词

eg：A recession like that of 1973-74 could put one in ten American companies into bankruptcy. 一场想1973到1974年那样的经济衰退会使1/10的美国公司破产。

3）用于识别身份或询问他人身份

eg: That's my wife you were talking to.

3、that引导从句

1）引导定语从句(代替先行词在从句中充当主语或者宾语)

2)引导名词性从句（只起连接作用不充当任何成分）

a. 引导主语从句：

eg: That he passed the driving test made us very happy.

b. 引导宾语从句

eg: I know that he is an intelligent and hard-working boy.

c. 引导表语从句

eg: My decision is that all of us are to start at 6 o'clock tomorrow morning.

d. 引导同位语从句
